This week The Mendi Group not only celebrates the opening of their Head Office renovations at Crocodile Crescent but also officially recognises the group’s 60 years of service to the North Queensland civil construction industry.
It was in 1959 that the business commenced as Goicoechea Constructions. The business evolved to be known as Mendi in the early 90’s and later Mendi Constructions in 1994.
The Group has evolved to be a well-integrated business and has firmly established its position within the Townsville region. Being the only local civil construction firm that can offer a fully integrated service from their quarry and haulage operations, to their extensive range of machinery and total project management services.
Since its inception in 1959 the Mendi Group has been part of many key construction projects that still mark our city. This legacy will be continued for years to come.
Historically a subdivision contractor, local economic pressures saw a need for business diversity. In an effort to broaden the business and create stability Jeff made a call to dilute exposure to the residential market and diversify to other Agencies and Infrastructure.
Having added two hard rock quarries (CAMM Quarries) and Townsville Graded Sands the business offers a ‘one-stop service’ to the construction industry. This integration is key to business success.
As a direct result of business expansion there has been an increase in plant and human resources across the haulage, civil and quarrying divisions.
The newly renovated premises considered staff layout, growth and a bit of wow factor in the design. Placed prominently within the new foyer is a fully rebuilt and refurbished 1959 model Caterpillar D2 bulldozer.
Investment in this expansion is a genuine sign of the Group’s commitment to the city and belief in future growth. The Mendi Group is here for the long term and, whilst it’s a bit away, its hopeful the next generation continue the company’s legacy of supporting all things local.
