With time running out, a last-minute bid to secure the financial future of the Northern Mendi Rays Netball team has seen Local North Queensland Civil Construction Company, The Mendi Group extend a lifeline and commit to the major naming right partnership just in time for the 2021 season start. The new partnership will see the Northern Rays become the Mendi Rays and keep professional netball alive in the North!
With a 60-year history in the North, Mendi are passionate supporters of the local community, helping to develop many sporting teams and local initiatives. Partnering with the Northern Mendi Rays was a great opportunity to continue their support for grassroots sports in the Northern region and celebrate their new partnership leading into International Women’s Day.
“We were approached at the 11th hour to offer support for the Rays and with out some level of assistance from all partners it’s fair to say the side may not have been on the court this season.” said Mendi Managing Director, Jeff Doyle.
“To be able to help the Northern Rays continue in the State League is a further example of our continued support within the region.” he said.
If we can have one child take up a sport because of something we have done, then that’s a success model. said Mr. Doyle.
This announcement comes after a massive few weeks for the Northern Mendi Rays also securing the signing of legendary netball royalty Vicki Wilson as Direct of Coaching and partnering with several more local North Queensland businesses to cement the future for the Northern Mendi Rays to become a powerhouse and match it with the big leagues in South East Queensland.
“It is so exciting for Netball in North Queensland to have Mendi join us as a partner.” said Ms Wilson.
“Having a locally based company support us is so important as we want to inspire young girls to continue their competitive netball journey into the senior competition.”
Mendi’s support will allow the Northern Mendi Rays to access support services such as strength and conditioning which is necessary in this standard of competition.” Wilson said.
“We are looking forward to working with Mendi and developing our partnership over the year.”
